I was always fascinated by the number of fun days there are out there, like ice cream day or in this case hedgehog day. I think knowing and celebrating fun “holidays” it’s a nice way to spice up your life.
Hedgehog day is celebrated every year on February 2nd, and this year I made a cute origami hedgehog to be part of this unusual holiday.
You might ask why is it celebrated on February 2nd?
There are two reasons, the first is because of a Roman tradition (using hedgehogs for the weather forecast) and the second of the release date for Sonic, the hedgehog 3 in 1994, in USA.
Hedgehogs are some amazing animals. They have spines, that are actually hollow hairs stiffened by keratin. They are also using their spines as a defense mechanism, as they are rolling into a ball when they feel threaten.
They have an amazing sense of smell, they can smell food under the soil and even the presence of danger.
If you want to celebrate the Hedgehog Day, you can make some crafts in their form, go for a hedgehog watching or even just leave some food for them in your garden.
